What it is

Apostrophe is a Markdown editor for writing prose. Its window is a clean page with a focus mode that dims everything but the current sentence, a word and character count, and a live preview of the formatted text. Behind the scenes it uses Pandoc, so you can export to HTML, PDF, Word documents and other formats.

Why it’s here

  • Room to write. Nothing on screen but your text, for essays, posts and drafts.
  • Plain Markdown. Files are ordinary .md text that any other tool can open.
  • Export anywhere. Pandoc turns a draft into a document in the format you need.

On CoreDesktop

CoreDesktop installs Apostrophe as a Flatpak from Flathub. Open it from the app grid, or open a Markdown file with it from Files. update keeps it current along with your other Flatpaks.
