What it is

Bun runs JavaScript and TypeScript, like Node.js, and also installs packages, bundles code and runs tests, all from one binary. It aims to work as a drop-in replacement for Node.js in most projects, and runs TypeScript files directly without a separate build step.

Why it’s here

  • Fast installs. bun install reads package.json and installs dependencies much faster than npm.
  • TypeScript without setup. bun run file.ts just works.
  • Fewer tools. Runtime, package manager, bundler and test runner in one.

On CoreDesktop

Bun is installed from pacman, alongside Node.js, so you can use either per project. update keeps it current with the rest of the pacman packages.
