fd

A simpler, faster way to find files by name.

What it is

fd finds files and directories by name. It’s an easier alternative to find: you type part of a name instead of a list of flags, matches are highlighted, and it skips hidden files and anything in .gitignore by default.

fd config ~/.config

Why it’s here

  • Short commands. fd name replaces find . -iname '*name*'.
  • Fast. It searches directories in parallel.
  • Respects .gitignore. Build output and dependencies stay out of the results.

On CoreDesktop

fd is installed from pacman. Type fd in a terminal. update keeps it current along with the rest of the pacman packages.
