What it is

Jellyfin is an open-source media server: you run it on a computer or server at home, point it at your films, TV shows and music, and stream them to any device. Jellyfin Desktop is the app for watching from your computer. It plays through mpv, so it supports hardware decoding, audio passthrough and more formats without the server having to convert them.

Why it’s here

  • Your own streaming service. Watch your own media library without a subscription or an account with someone else.
  • Better playback than a browser. Files play directly that the web interface would have to transcode.

On CoreDesktop

CoreDesktop installs Jellyfin Desktop as a Flatpak from Flathub. Open it from the app grid and enter your Jellyfin server’s address. It replaces the older Jellyfin Media Player Flatpak, which update removes. update keeps Jellyfin Desktop current along with your other Flatpaks.
