What it is

Pandoc is a command-line tool that converts documents from one markup format to another. It reads and writes Markdown, HTML, Word (.docx), OpenDocument, LaTeX, EPUB, reStructuredText and many more. With a LaTeX engine installed it also produces PDFs.

pandoc notes.md -o notes.docx

Why it’s here

  • Write once, publish anywhere. Draft in Markdown and hand people a Word file, a web page or a PDF.
  • PDFs out of the box. TeX Live is installed too, so pandoc notes.md -o notes.pdf works.

On CoreDesktop

CoreDesktop installs Pandoc from pacman; on Arch the pandoc command comes from the pandoc-cli package. Run pandoc in a terminal. update keeps it current with the rest of the pacman packages.
