ripgrep

Search file contents fast, skipping what your .gitignore ignores.

Installed from
pacman · ripgrep
Run it
rg
Source

What it is

ripgrep searches files for a pattern, like grep, but recursively by default and much faster on large trees. It skips files listed in .gitignore, hidden files and binaries unless you ask for them, so results stay relevant in code projects.

rg "TODO" src/

Why it’s here

  • Fast on big projects. It searches whole repositories in a moment.
  • Sensible defaults. Ignored and binary files stay out of the results.
  • Used by other tools. Editors such as Neovim’s fuzzy finders call it for searching.

On CoreDesktop

ripgrep is installed from pacman. Type rg in a terminal. update keeps it current along with the rest of the pacman packages.
