What it is
Sonarr is an open-source TV show manager that runs as a background service. You tell it which series you follow, and it watches your Usenet indexers and torrent trackers for new episodes, sends them to your download client, then renames and files the finished downloads into your library. Its interface is a web page you open in your browser.
Why it’s here
- Hands-off TV. New episodes arrive and are filed in your library without you checking for them.
- Tidy libraries. Consistent folder and file names suit media servers such as Jellyfin.
- Pairs with qBittorrent. It hands downloads to the torrent client CoreDesktop also installs.
On CoreDesktop
CoreDesktop installs Sonarr from the AUR and enables and starts sonarr.service at install, so it’s already running. Open http://localhost:8989 in your browser to set it up. The firewall doesn’t open port 8989 to your local network; the page is reachable from this machine and over Tailscale.
audit lists Sonarr with its port and lets you stop it, and update leaves it off if you do. update keeps Sonarr current with the rest of the AUR packages.
