What it is

Telegram is a cloud-based messaging service. Your chats are stored on Telegram’s servers and sync across your phone and computers, so you can pick up a conversation on any device. Besides one-to-one chats it has large groups, broadcast channels, bots and file sharing. Regular chats are encrypted between you and Telegram’s servers; end-to-end encrypted “secret chats” are available on phones.

Telegram Desktop, the app here, is open source; the Telegram server is not.

Why it’s here

  • Where the people are. Many communities and projects run their groups and channels on Telegram.
  • Synced everywhere. Log in and your full chat history is there, without your phone needing to be online.

On CoreDesktop

CoreDesktop installs Telegram as a Flatpak from Flathub. Open it from the app grid and log in with your phone number or a QR code. The sandboxed AI agents can’t read Telegram’s data. update keeps it current along with your other Flatpaks.
