What it is
Thunderbird is a desktop email client from MZLA Technologies, part of the Mozilla Foundation. It handles several email accounts in one window, with a unified inbox, search, filters and OpenPGP encryption. It also includes a calendar and address book that sync over CalDAV and CardDAV, plus RSS feeds and chat.
Why it’s here
- Real email on the desktop. Fast search, offline mail and message filters work across all your accounts.
- Your Core’s calendar and contacts. CalDAV and CardDAV connect it to Nextcloud.
- Encrypted mail. OpenPGP is built in, with no plugin needed.
On CoreDesktop
CoreDesktop installs Thunderbird as a Flatpak from Flathub. Open it from the app grid and add your account with your email address and password. Your Core’s mail server publishes its settings in Thunderbird’s autoconfig format, so Thunderbird can fill in the server details for you.
update keeps Thunderbird current along with your other Flatpaks.
