What it is
VLC is an open-source media player from the VideoLAN project. It plays nearly every video and audio format without extra codec packs, along with DVDs, network streams and podcasts. It can also convert files between formats, record streams and play subtitles in many formats.
Why it’s here
- Plays what other players won’t. Odd formats and damaged files usually open in VLC.
- More than playback. Converting, streaming and capturing are in the Media menu.
On CoreDesktop
CoreDesktop installs VLC from pacman together with vlc-plugins-all, so every codec and feature plugin is present. If an older install had the VLC Flatpak, update removes it in favor of this package.
Open VLC from the app grid or run vlc. update keeps it current with the rest of the pacman packages.
