What it is
Zen is a web browser built on Firefox, with a redesigned interface for people who keep a lot of tabs open. Tabs run down the side of the window instead of across the top, workspaces group tabs by project, and split view puts two or more pages side by side.
Underneath it’s Firefox, so it uses Mozilla’s Gecko engine and installs Firefox add-ons.
Why it’s here
- Built for many tabs. Vertical tabs, workspaces and pinned tabs keep a busy session organized.
- Firefox underneath. You get Gecko and Firefox add-ons with a different layout on top.
- An Arc alternative. It covers much of what people liked about Arc, in open source.
On CoreDesktop
CoreDesktop installs Zen as a Flatpak from Flathub. Open it from the app grid. Helium is CoreDesktop’s default browser; to make Zen the default instead, pick it in Settings › Apps › Default Apps.
The sandboxed AI agents can’t read Zen’s profile, as they can’t read any Flatpak app’s data. update keeps Zen current along with your other Flatpaks.
